Australia has positioned itself as a global destination for exceptional talent, innovation, and leadership. The National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) — formerly known as the Global Talent Visa — is one of Australia’s most prestigious and streamlined permanent residency pathways, designed for individuals who are internationally recognised and at the top of their field.
At Atlas Lawyers Migration, we assist high-achieving professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and technical experts to secure permanent residency through this exclusive visa stream.
What Is the National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858)?
The National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) is a permanent residency visa for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional and outstanding achievement in a recognised field and who can contribute to Australia’s economic, social, or cultural development.
Unlike most skilled visas, the Subclass 858:
- Does not require a points test
- Does not have an age limit
- Does not rely on occupation lists
- Does not require employer sponsorship
This visa is reserved for applicants who can clearly demonstrate global recognition, leadership, and impact.
Who Is the Subclass 858 Designed For?
The National Innovation Visa is suitable for individuals with an international profile, including but not limited to:
- Senior technology and digital leaders
- Engineers and infrastructure specialists
- Researchers and academics with global recognition
- Entrepreneurs and startup founders
- FinTech, AI, cybersecurity and data specialists
- Construction, energy and advanced manufacturing experts
- High-income professionals with global market demand
Applicants are assessed on quality, not quantity — it is not about years of experience alone, but about impact, recognition, and future contribution to Australia.

Common Mistakes in Subclass 858 Applications
